Wed 16 January 2019: Landshipping Mining Disaster Talk

Details:  Dr Robert Davies is a well known Pembrokeshire speaker on a range of topics and he has readily agreed to open our 2019 programme with a presentation on the development of coal mining in Pembrokeshire, in particular at Landshipping.

The talk will include a brief look at the impact of coal mining on families and communities and explain how the Royal Commission report of 1842 resulted in legislation to protect miners. He will then examine the Garden Pit Disaster and other Landshipping and local Mining related fatalities.

Timings and Meeting Point: Beginning at 19.10 (yes 10 minutes past 7 o’clock). This is because the room is booked strictly from 19.00 to 20.30).
Venue is the Seminar Room at Bloomfield Community Centre, Redstone Road, Narberth, SA67 7ES. There is ample parking outside.

Refreshments:  Tea and coffee will be available from 19.05.
