Then for those who want to, we can go over to Barafundle (which is a Heritage beach) then on to Broad Haven South Beach and back to the car park. This walk is graded as ‘Easy’.

Wednesday 8 August 2018: Haverfordwest Castle and Museum visit

Details:   Simon Hancock, the castle and museum curator will give us an introduction to the castle, from its construction in the time of Edward Longshanks to its ravaging in the 1648 and touch on such famous visitors as King Richard II and Oliver Cromwell, during our tour of the grounds.

This will be followed by a tour of the museum and its exhibits, including copies of Oliver Cromwell’s letters ordering the destruction of the castle. There is also a fine model of the castle, as it would have looked in 1394. Thereafter, you will be free to browse the museum at your leisure.

Timings and Meeting Point:  Meet at the Castle Museum car park at 19:00. The event will finish about 20:30.

Thursday 5 July 2018: Northern Perimeter Castlemartin Range Walk

Details:  This linear walk was created a couple of years ago by the MOD/PCNPA to permit off-road walking around, and at places, in, the northern perimeter of Castlemartin West Tank Firing Range.  The walk starts at the wonderful, wild Freshwater West beach, then branching inland, taking in views west to the Islands, north to the Preselis, and south across the Range.  An opportunity to see the whole Tank Range is afforded at a specially constructed viewing site, and with luck there may be a tank ‘battle’ under way. A surprisingly interesting inland, easy, level, walk. (NB. This is not the walk that can be arranged with National Park Authority, through the Range itself).  SORRY, NO DOGS.

Distance: Approximately 7.5-8.0 miles. Wear boots and appropriate gear.

This walk is graded as ‘Easy

Start location and Timing: Meet at Bosherston NT Car Park at 10:00 hrs. (OS Map reference SR 967 948) Parking charge, but free for NT members (bring NT membership cards). Car share to Freshwater West to commence walk, therefore only two per car initially, please. Cars will ferry people back to Bosherston at the end of the walk. The walk should finish by 15:30 hrs.

Meals:
Bring a packed lunch, water and refreshments as required. At the end of the walk we can visit the Bosherston pub, café or hostelry en-route to Pembroke.
