2018 Children's Literary Competition Winners

Primary Age Group

We are pleased to report that the Primary section was hotly contested this year with much deliberation as to who should take the top prize. 

Secondary Age Group

In the older Secondary School category (for pupils 12-14 years old)

  • First: Hetty Lort-Phillips (Ysgol y Preseli) for her poem Untamed, So famed, Pembrokeshire.   Hetty used rhyme and rhythm effectively to describe the character of several Pembrokeshire beaches.
  • Second: a poem entitled Precious Memories of Pembrokeshire – Set on Nolton Haven Beach by Amelia Harrison (Wem, Shropshire). The poem describes returning to Pembrokeshire on holiday and the feelings and memories this evoked.
  • Third: Last year’s winner, Seren Rees (Ysgol y Preseli), for her piece entitled A letter to the Friends of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.   The letter explains in detail the positive impact living in the National Park has had on Seren and how its treasures should be shared with others.
  • Highly Commended: Begw Lois Fussell (Ysgol y Preseli) for her poem Pembrokeshire National Park in which she describes places in the Park that are magical to her.
