Write a letter, poem or short story, in English or Welsh, inspired by your time in the wonderful Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
The 2017-2018 competition is open to anyone within Primary (9-11) or Secondary (12-14) age categories (defined below) who lives in or has visited Pembrokeshire’s National Park.
There are cash prizes for the winners, and the winning entries will be published on this website and may be printed in our News&Views magazine and displayed at Oriel y Parc.
We actively canvass all local schools to participate and we award a ‘Certificate of Commendation’ to each school that submits entries. Our panel of three judges includes two teachers one of whom is a retired Head Teacher. Two of the judges are fluent in both English and Welsh.
This annual competition was first promoted by the Friends in 2012 in order to stimulate a wider appreciation and understanding amongst the younger generation of what is so special about the landscape, flora, fauna and cultural heritage of our beautiful National Park.
The two age groups for submissions are Primary and Secondary: 9-11 years and 12-14 years respectively as at 31st August 2018. Cash prizes (to be specified) for 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, will be awarded to each of the winning entrants in each group. No entry forms will be issued; any youngster wishing to enter submits a letter, poem or piece of prose encapsulating what it is that makes Britain’s only truly Coastal National Park so special to them. They may do a drawing or take a photograph (optional) within the National Park which depicts this, as long as it is accompanied by a letter, poem or piece of prose identifying what it is they are trying to emphasise about the National Park. Any entry, which should be about the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, should have a relevant title and may be handwritten or typed. It should have the author’s name, date of birth, name of school, home address and both home and school telephone numbers clearly written on the reverse. All entries must be received by the 15th June 2018 and should be sent to
PO Box 218
Prizes will be presented to the winners in person (if possible) at the Friends AGM to be held in October 2018.
