Following the delegation of new legislative powers to Wales, the Welsh Government has announced a range of proposed new Bills which will affect the Welsh National Parks and how they are managed. The consequences of these proposals could have a significant impact on our National Parks. Accordingly, the Friends, together with the Alliance for Welsh Designated Landscapes (AfWDL) and the Welsh National Park Societies (WNPS), are closely monitoring any new proposals and, if thought appropriate, responding to them as and when the consultation documents are launched. The Friends’ submissions on consultation documents are below, in date order of our responses with the latest at the top.

Friends Submit Evidence together with AfNP Cymru to Review Panel

At the end of May, The Friends submitted their second stage evidence to the Review Panel on Designated Landscapes in Wales. This evidence was submitted jointly with the other National Park Societies in Wales and the Alliance for National Parks Cymru and focused on Governance issues. In addition to this, further comments were also submitted on the findings of the Review Panel following their scrutiny of evidence given to the first stage of the Review.

On 18 June, the Friends together with the Alliance gave oral evidence on their submission to the Review Panel in Cardiff. This proved to be a very positive meeting which lasted an hour.

Friends Register a Statement of Interest in Atlantic Array:-

The following statement of interest has been submitted as part of the registration of interest in this case. This is necessary to enable the Friends to submit detailed comments and even to attend any hearings. We intend to keep an eye on things as they develop. There are, of course, other protected landscapes affected – Exmoor NP, Gower AONB and North Devon AONB and of course Lundy Island.FPCNP_Statement_of_Interest_in_Atlantic_Array
